Global Learning Events

Throughout my time in the Global Medallion program I was able to participate in diverse events (some modified due to the pandemic) and acquire insights from many different people discussing real life topics that affect us on a daily basis. It would also give me the opportunity to connect with leaders making a difference in what they do!

SOBEWFF Day 1.jpg

The Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival is a annual four-day destination surrounding different events where several talented culinary and wine connoisseurs along with restaurants bringing their best dish on over to beach. One of the highlights of this festival is that all net proceeds benefit the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management!  As we are beginning to see the light with COVID-19, it was a very important year to be a part of the festival volunteering.  Before the festival started, I participated as Team Hydrate, ensuring everyone, people and stations were hydrated throughout the day. Not only was it the festival's 20th Anniversary, but one of my volunteer tasks was to ensure maximum guest safety. In doing so, along with my fellow guest services volunteers, would hand out hand sanitzer wipes, masks, and would be of any assistance we could be for our guests.  I volunteered the whole festival and needless to say it was an unforgettable event in which I am glad I partook in!

I was able to also able meet Andrew Zimmern and he was so nice and amicable despite the circumstances and even thanked all the volunteers that helped run the festival smoothly!

Tuesday Times Roundtable

Leadership & Trust
James Knapp

Due to COVID-19, all Tuesday Times Roundtables were modified to Zoom. We were also encouraged to watch some previous TTRs from GoGlobalFIU on Youtube! I have to admit I have happy I took initiative to listen and reflect on some.  This TTR in specific called Leadership and Trust with guest speaker James Knapp was my absolute favorite.  During this Tuesday Times Roundtable we were able to analyze and observe why many domestic students do not pursue higher education.  It has become a world where more and more people are obtaining their bachelor’s degrees and it is important that we can continue differentiating ourselves through education and experience. It is stepping out of your comfort zone, leading, and shadowing whenever possible that will be the best at helping us get to where we aspire to be at.
